Accra, July 27, 2026 – Ghana has successfully completed its US$3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, following the IMF Executive Board's approval of the programme's final review.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson announced that the approval unlocks the final disbursement of approximately US$371 million, bringing total disbursements under the programme to US$3 billion.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the successful completion of the programme reflects Ghana's progress in restoring macroeconomic stability through fiscal discipline, lower inflation, stronger external reserves, and key structural reforms aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth.
With the ECF programme now concluded, Ghana will transition to a 36-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) with the IMF. Unlike the ECF, the PCI is a non-financing arrangement that will support the government's reform agenda through policy coordination, monitoring, and technical assistance without additional bailout funding.
The government also expressed appreciation to the people of Ghana for their resilience and support throughout the implementation of the IMF-supported reforms. It further thanked the IMF Executive Board, development partners, civil society, and the private sector for their contributions.
Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the gains achieved under the programme and implementing reforms to build a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous economy for all Ghanaians.
