Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, has reaffirmed the Government of Ghana's unwavering commitment to strengthening national security and combating the proliferation of illicit weapons, as he delivered the keynote address at the National Arms Destruction Ceremony held to commemorate the United Nations International Day for the Destruction of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

Serving as the Guest of Honour, Hon. Debrah joined senior officials from Ghana's security institutions, government agencies, diplomatic missions, and development partners at the ceremony, which highlighted the country's commitment to promoting peace, public safety, and responsible arms control.

In his keynote address, the Chief of Staff emphasized that the destruction of confiscated and obsolete firearms is a significant step toward preventing armed violence, reducing crime, and protecting communities across the country. He noted that effective control of small arms is essential to preserving national stability and creating an environment conducive to development.

Hon. Debrah commended Ghana's security agencies for their dedication and professionalism in tackling the illicit circulation of weapons and called for stronger collaboration among state institutions, international partners, and citizens to sustain the fight against illegal arms trafficking.

The National Arms Destruction Ceremony forms part of Ghana's observance of the United Nations International Day for the Destruction of Small Arms and Light Weapons, reinforcing the nation's commitment to international and regional efforts aimed at preventing armed conflict and enhancing public security.

The event concluded with the symbolic destruction of confiscated and obsolete weapons, underscoring Ghana's determination to build a safer and more peaceful society for all.
