We Don't Know Anything About Reduction On Import Duties - Ghana Ports & Harbor Authority

The Ghana Ports and Harbor Authority says they know nothing about government decision to reduce import duties and this is unfair according to them. In the short interview, a member of the board who for security reasons wishes to stay anonymous profers that the government of Ghana is supposed to inform them before the town hall meeting over reduction on import duties and whatever government is deciding on import duties must first be presented to the board, propose to parliament and follow proper negotiations to that effect.
According to him, the government is actually making management go through difficulties due to its political interest.
This came up as a result of the Town Hall Meeting with the economic management team of Ghana which was held on the 3rd - 04 2019 in Accra when the vice president of Ghana His Excellency Mahamadu Bawumia stated that import duties will be slashed down by 30% for vehicles and cars and 50% for goods and raw materials.
According to GPHA, they are yet to be informed and can not state anything until Parliament approval.

We don't know anything about Dr. Bawumia's reduction in import duties, we have no idea.

According to him, this is a piece of good news to hear so we are waiting for directives, but for now, we just run the normal duty at the harbor.
