National Communications Officer of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has broken his silence following a wave of criticism surrounding a recent gesture that unexpectedly became public.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Gyamfi addressed the backlash, particularly from within his party, clarifying that his action was a personal act of kindness with no intention of publicity. “To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need,” he wrote.
Gyamfi expressed regret that the act, which he believed was carried out in private, ended up in the public domain. He acknowledged the reactions of those hurt by the development and issued an apology: “To all such comrades, I am sincerely sorry for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views.”
Though the specifics of the incident were not detailed in his post, the apology appears to respond to concerns raised by party loyalists and supporters who questioned the propriety of the gesture or its public exposure.
Despite the controversy, Gyamfi reaffirmed his commitment to public service and to his current responsibilities. “My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others has not changed,” he stated.
He also took the opportunity to thank those who had reached out in support, offering encouragement and counsel during the turbulent moment.
Concluding on a reflective note, he wished Ghanaians a peaceful Sunday and extended warm Mother’s Day wishes to mothers across the country.
The incident underscores the scrutiny faced by public figures in Ghana’s charged political atmosphere and the delicate balance between personal actions and public perception.
